Alberta drug coverage — the honest picture
Alberta's provincial drug coverage runs through several programs (Non-Group, Coverage for Seniors, Palliative, AISH, Income Support) and, for most working adults, through Alberta Blue Cross group and individual plans. GLP-1 coverage varies:

If your Alberta Blue Cross plan covers a portion of Ozempic or Mounjaro for type 2 diabetes, out-of-pocket typically drops to the plan's co-pay. Weight-management brands are generally full-pay.
The AHS specialist route
For type 2 diabetes patients specifically, an Alberta endocrinology referral (for example to LMC) can result in visits that are covered under the provincial plan and prescribing that's tightly integrated with your other diabetes care. That's a good fit if your case is complex.
